On holiday we like visiting abbeys, castles and grand old houses. We visited Killala, a picturesque seaside village nestled on Killala Bay. It is rich in archaeological and historical remains, the right place for us!
Moyne Abbey lies on the West side of the Bay and it is one of most impressive ecclesiastical ruins in Mayo and a National Monument. After a short walk over a field scattered with cows we reached the Abbey.
The place is an evocative and delightful retreat. From the tower we could spot the other side of the Bay, Sligo shores, the Moy’s basin and the Ox Mountains far away on the sky-line.
It was a warm sunny day, we had a rest just sitting on the grass and we enjoyed the silent and the peace of this place.
