International Dark Sky Week

April 2023
The 2023 International Dark Sky Week will take place from Sunday, 16th April, to Saturday, 22nd April.
Different communities and Mayo towns will host the event.

On Sunday, 16th April, a sunset walk will take place at the Deserted Village on Achill Island.

On Monday, 17th April, Lough Lannagh in Castlebar will host the “Urban Dark Skies & Biodiversity”.

On Tuesday, 18th April, in Newport, there will be talks about astronomy by John Flannery.

On Wednesday, 19th April, a night walk will take place on the grounds of Westport House in Westport.

On Thursday, the 20th, April Mulranny Arts Centre will host a night of music, “ Music of the Stars”.

On Friday, 21st of April, there will be “Stars and Stories of the Sea” in Blacksod.
- On Saturday, 22nd April, the International Dark Sky Week will end at Ballycroy Visitor Centre in Wild Nephin National Park with "Dánta in the Dark". Writers and reciters will share their works about the beauty of the dark skies.
