Irish Astronomy Week
March 2024
The 2024 Irish Astronomy Week “ From your Garden to the Stars” will take place from Saturday 9th March to Saturday 16th March across Ireland. The week aims to encourage people to go out in their gardens and explore the sky.
In County Mayo Mayo Dark Sky Park and some libraries are hosting the following events.
Library Talks
“Night Sky Obsession” by András Csaplár will take place in Westport Library on 13th March at 7.00 pm.
“Astronomy: An Introduction for Schools” by Brian MacGabhann in Claremorris Library. It is a private talk for local school and will take place on 14th March at 10.00 am.
Dark Sky Walks
Mayo Dark Sky is organizing two walks on March 8th and March 15th at 8:00 pm. The meeting point for both walks will be at Letterkeen Bothy, which is located in the Mayo Dark Sky Park in Newport.
The walks will last around 2.5 hours and will take place on a flat gravel path for the majority of the route. Participants are advised to wear sturdy shoes and warm clothing.
