Down Memory Lane, Charlestown in Co. Mayo
Over to Ballaghadereen I went
The sports I went to view
When the little horse jumped the fence
And made them all subdue
With Johnny Hanley on his back
To encourage him along
Amongst a cheering throng
When the sport was over
Down to Flannery's he did go
He drank his wealth
His horse's health
Until his eyes did flow
Then home he strode
On his own home road
The road he knew so well
When nearing his home
The cobb he nagged
A story I have to tell
Put more food stuff in my foodbox
And I will jump that ditch
Three times as quick
For the sake of the rising dew
So now my story ended
I hope it pleases all
Especially Johnny Hanley
And his old Pye Ball.
