Walking Routes, Claremorris in Co. Mayo
The beauty of the surrounding area around Claremorris provides many excellent possible walking routes giving you the chance to really discover the magic of the region firsthand.
Suggested routes:
Route 1
From the town square take the Castlebar road for one mile. At the racecourse turn right and continue along this quiet little road behind the Convent of Mercy Secondary School for another mile and then coming out on the Claremorris-Knock road turn right for town making this an approximately two and a half mile stroll.
Route 2
This route takes you out the Ballinrobe road, veering right at the roundabout. After a mile take the first right turn and proceed along the bog road.
In summer it is very likely that you will see turf cutting and harvesting in process. As well as their role of providing fuel for domestic use, these peat bogs also have a very important role in the conservation of wildlife which can not exist elsewhere.
This bog road will bring you out over the railway and by continuing on straight you will come out onto the Castlebar road which will return you to the centre of the town concluding this three mile walk.
To lengthen the walk you can turn left at the bridge, proceed for half a mile, turn right and keep going for another half mile coming out onto the Castlebar road.
Turning right here will bring you back into the town centre after another two miles making this walk a total of six miles long.
