Louisburgh Cycle Hub
If cycling is your preferred recreation, you can enjoy one or all of the Louisburgh Killeen Cycle Hub Loops during your stay in the area. With Louisburgh as your base there is a choice of three cycle loops - some of which meander along wonderful sea cliffs and beaches, whilst other inland tracks straggle winding back roads, through rugged countryside.
Loop 1 - Roonagh Quay

- Terrain: Flat bog roads with some gentle hills. – Traffic: Generally light
Fantastic views of Achill, Clare, Inishbofin and Inishturk Islands. This loop also includes a track along sea cliffs or Carrowmore beach if you fancy a quick surf
Loop 2 - Bunowen Loop

Degree of Difficulty: Suit people with medium levels of fitness but there are some climbs where walking the bike may be more suitable

Terrain: A pleasant cycling route with incredible views over a short distance. However, there are a couple of quite steep hills on this loop, most of which are only a short walk if fitness is a concern.
- Traffic: Generally light
The panoramic views from the summit are worth the effort.
Loop 3 - Derrymore

Terrain: A more challenging trip inland to the Sheeffry Hills, through isolated country on roads almost completely traffic-free. The steep climb to the summit of Derrymore is one of the highlights of this loop. Two streams to be crossed en-route.

The Great Western Greenway
The town of Westport is only 22km from Louisburgh and there commences the magnificent Great Western Greenway. This unique off-road cycling/walking track is 42km long, stretching from Westport through Newport, Mulranny and on to Achill. Recently developed it consists of 4 individual stages, one or all of which can be attempted at your leisure and at your own level of fitness. Bicycle hire is available in all of the towns along the route.
