Killary Harbour South
Killary Harbour is one of the Signature Points of the Wild Atlantic Way south of Co. Mayo.
Killary Harbour, An Caoláire Rua in Irish, is the Republic of Ireland’s only fjord, which forms a natural border between counties Galway and Mayo. It is 16 kilometres long and in the centre over 45 metres deep.
The village of Leenane is located at the end of the harbour beneath the Maamtrasna and Maamturk mountains and the unspoilt wilderness of the area coupled with modern amenities and tourist attractions make Leenane one of the 'must see' and very desirable destinations for visitors to Connemara.
The nearby Kylemore Abbey, a Benedictine monastery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle, is one of the top attractions in the West of Ireland, a true hidden gem in a picturesque hill and lakeside setting.
